The Cosmetology Diploma program combines theoretical knowledge and hands-on fundamentals you’ll need to become a licensed beauty pro. Through lectures, in-person demonstrations, and experience in the student salon, this fast-paced program covers the skills demanded of successful hair, skin, and nail care professionals.

What Does A Cosmetologist Do?

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Cosmetologist duties include providing haircutting, hairstyling, and other beauty services. Cosmetologists may perform some or all of the following duties¹:

  • Inspect and analyze hair, skin, and scalp to recommend treatment
  • Discuss hairstyle options
  • Wash, color, lighten, and condition hair
  • Chemically change hair textures
  • Cut, dry, and style hair
  • Receive payments from clients
  • Clean and disinfect all tools and work areas

Through our hands-on training modules and industry-current classes taught by experienced instructors, you could take your cosmetology skills to the next level. Our simulated student salons will give you hands-on training in hair, nails, skin, multicultural techniques, hair cutting and coloring, and makeup techniques.

How Long Is Cosmetology School?

The normal completion time for the day program is 12 months and for the evening program, 19 months. Upon successful completion of the 82 credit hours/1500 clock hour program and all other graduation requirements, the program culminates in the awarding of a Cosmetology Diploma.

Each graduate of Blue Cliff College’s Cosmetology School will have had the opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to become a licensed Cosmetologist.

To pursue a cosmetology license, you must successfully graduate from a state-approved beauty school after successfully completing the required hours of training needed by your state board of cosmetology. Graduates from Louisiana or Mississippi are eligible to take the cosmetology licensure exam after completing our 1,500 clock hour or 82 credit hour Cosmetology courses.
