A Massage Therapy Career take a Special Touch
Massage therapists work to relieve the physical stress and pain of others. With their hands, they manipulate soft tissues and muscles to relieve that pain and increase the health and wellness of their clients.
By attaining a diploma in massage therapy, graduates are entered into a field with high job growth and career opportunities. From 2014- 2024 massage therapy careers are expected to grow 22% from 168,800 jobs to around 205,936 nationally*.
In the states that Blue Cliff College serves specifically, job opportunities are expected to grow:
- Arkansas 21%
- Louisiana 10%
- Mississippi 3%
*percentages are based on current employment which vary state to state
Massage therapy is not constrained to careers solely in relaxation spas. Career opportunities expand to many different horizons including hospitals, massage offices, at home, on site, cruise ships, nursing homes, and more. This diversity allows massage therapists to choose an environment that best suits them and the kind of career they wish to pursue.
Massage therapists should possess a few key qualities to ensure they are headed down the correct career path. Career Colleges like Blue Cliff provide students with the knowledge and skills to enter the field, but success in the field is highly dependent on the individual themselves. Massage therapists should feel comfortable being in close physical contact with strangers. They must be an active listener, have strong social perceptions, and be a critical thinker to ensure they are providing the care that is wanted and needed of the client during the duration of their care. Massage therapy is also a physically demanding field. Therapists are often standing for long periods of time, use their hands all day, and are required to use their strength on clients who request deeper massages.
Blue Cliff College’s Massage Therapy curriculum provides students with the skills and knowledge to gain entry level positions upon graduation. Students will have a strong foundation in:
- Anatomy and physiology
- Massage fundamentals
- Business skills
- Health and wellness
- Hands-on experience massage techniques in all fields
Classes start about every 6 weeks so students can get started at their own time and convenience!
